At Perth International Airport Terminal 1, the Passenger Gate Waiting Area has been redesigned by Woods Bagot to deliver a calmer and more refined passenger experience within one of Australia’s busiest transport hubs. Within this high-traffic environment, SAS International’s metal ceiling systems play a key role in shaping a contemporary interior space.
The project utilises SAS International’s, SAS200 metal ceiling system with a bronze ripple effect finish. This precision-engineered hook-on solution delivers a clean, monolithic ceiling appearance with concealed suspension. The system is fully demountable allowing access to essential services that are a critical requirement in transport environments that need to operate around the clock.
The SAS specialist acoustic ceiling solution was supplied via our Western Australian distribution partner, Progressive Materials, supporting the Woods Bagot design that combines performance and sustainability. Acoustic comfort was a key design consideration in the passenger gate lounge, where crowd density, announcements and continuous movement can significantly impact sound levels.
Incorporating acoustic infill, the SAS200 system contributes to effective sound absorption, helping to reduce reverberation and create a more controlled and comfortable waiting environment. This improved acoustic performance enhances speech intelligibility for boarding calls while supporting overall passenger wellbeing.
The system also enables seamless integration of lighting, air distribution and other services within a consistent ceiling module, maintaining a visually ordered plane while accommodating complex infrastructure above. This balance of architectural clarity, acoustic control and technical functionality makes SAS200 particularly well suited to airport and transport applications.
The completed project has enhanced the spatial quality of the departure lounge and shows another example of how SAS International is able to support major infrastructure projects either directly or via our trusted distribution partnerships.
