The new London Blackfriars station is the first railway station to span the Thames. SAS Project Management designed, manufactured and installed a series of bespoke trapezoidal panels with an all-over perforation and acoustic fleece backing. These were suspended from the steelwork of the roof structure and fixed to curved ribs formed from a purpose designed ‘H’ section extrusion.

Specially designed binnacles which comprised of a stainless steel and glass enclosure built around a steel framework were also installed throughout the platform.

Their purpose is to house electrical control gear and to route cabling for lighting, signalling and also provide access to the service walkway in the roof space above.

The new extended platforms spanned the full length of the existing  refurbished bridge structure.

The river crossing environment dictated that special attention was paid to the selection of materials and finishes, also the structure had to meet the specific requirements for wind loading and other conditions.

Systems used
