Open-Cell Design Defines Little Creatures Elizabeth Quay
Perth’s Elizabeth Quay waterfront now features a standout hospitality destination enhanced by distinctive and high-quality SAS International ceiling solutions supplied through our Western Australian distribution partner, Progressive Materials. The design-driven venue demanded a ceiling system that could support a contemporary industrial look, meet site-specific performance requirements and integrate seamlessly with bespoke lighting and services.
For this fit-out, the SAS800 open-cell ceiling system was supplied in 100 × 100 mm configurated modules. SAS floating perimeter trims and fully integrated light channels were also included. However, the showstopper for this ceiling was the custom Rusted Crimson Red powder coat finish colour-matched by SAS to align with the venue’s interior palette and brand identity.
The project posed several challenges, including exposure to strong waterfront winds that risked wind-lift on lightweight tiles, tight supply and installation timeframes in a busy CBD fit-out environment and complex ceiling geometry requiring curved trims. A custom bracket solution was developed to secure the open-cell tiles against wind-lift while retaining the clean, semi-exposed aesthetic. Trim details were formed to accommodate curved transitions and the ceiling layout was coordinated early to integrate lighting channels directly within the grid system.
Designed by award-winning Cross Design, the result is a distinctive open-cell metal ceiling that reinforces Little Creatures’ modern brand whilst delivering robust performance suited to the Elizabeth Quay location. This installation is another example of the adaptability of SAS ceiling systems and the expertise of our distribution partner in delivering tailored solutions that combine visual impact, technical performance and coordinated integration on complex hospitality projects.
